What July 4th means to me, "It's hot, and I'm wondering if I should go to the Quapaw powwow, It's in the northeast corner of Oklahoma. Just about 5 miles and a person can be in Kansas or Missouri."
"I haven't been to the powwow in a few years, I don't see myself going."
"I'm going to get some firecrackers, and my family and hangout."
To be honest, It's just another day to me, It wasn't my forefathers that sign that paper in 1776, It means nothing to me, my people have always been independent.
The very freedom that paper represents, took way to long, to work for my people.
July 4th is special in one way, "good food, friends, and family."
Funny thing happen my daughter just walked in and said we are going to the powwow, it' a three and a half hour drive. It's been a while so I'm excited.
Renew friendships, dance, and visit relatives.
My teacher wants some facts about Independence Day, but I'm not going to write any, there's no independence in this country and if you think there is then you are kidding yourself.
Sometimes a person just has to write his opinion about certain subjects. Leave out the facts, because the fact is freedom as it applies to the Native American is not freedom at all, confined to reservations, our childern being taken away, our language, let us just say our independence. July 4th is just another day.
