Karen Basedow, a real estate agent from New Jersey, will return in April for her third visit to assist Houma tribal members’ ongoing recovery efforts. Basedow spent eight days in Dulac last year with her son, Kyle, and husband, Fred, along with other volunteers from their Methodist church in Maplewood, N.J. She will return with 30 more volunteers to help repair homes and engage in other work. “The first year was an eye-opener,” she says of her initial visit, “and to go back every year, you see things differently each time.”
