Rez Recipes, Santee's Stew

By Santee Ross, University of Montana

As classes are coming to their final weeks I notice that I’m eating less and less. I’ve gone from making oatmeal or eggs for breakfast straight to skipping the most important meal of the day altogether. I could blame my recent bad-eating habit on the stress of the last weeks of school but let’s get real here, I just am not in the mood to cook anymore.

Things get strange on Navajo Cops

Navajo Cops are back and they aren't messing around in this week's episode. The first call takes viewers to Fort Defiance, Ariz., where Officer Toddy attends to a man that claims somebody tried to stab him. Cops arrive to find the man intoxicated and as they search the house they find another man in hiding. The house has a reputation that involves drugs and apparently the guy in hiding realizes this because cops find him with weapons. Might as well be stealth and protected.

IHS launches anti-bullying video during National Child Abuse Prevention Month

By Santee Ross, University of Montana

April showers don’t just bring May flowers, it also brings bullying awareness. April marks the National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Indian Health Services has taken part by releasing a anti-bullying video.

The video shows three young Native girls at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. sending the message that “Bullying is not Native.”

Health care remains a joke in Indian Country

By Santee Ross, University of Montana

Medical care is something of a joke in Indian Country.

If you need medical assistance from Indian Health Services you can expect to wait hours and hours only to be given some aspirin for the pain, and antibiotics so you don’t die of infection.
This is why I always laugh when my mom tells me to go to the clinic when we have Tylenol in the bathroom.

Assassin's Creed 3 features Native American assassin in upcoming game

By Santee Ross, University of Montana

I’m pretty sure the creator gave us thumbs to play video games. Every mother would argue against it but how else can you explain the ability to hold down R1, toggle left while hitting the X and O button all at the same time?

About 72 percent of Americans know what I’m talking about since that’s the percent of households that play video games according to Entertainment Software Association.

Navajo Cops highlights domestic disputes in Navajo Country

By Stacy Thacker, University of Montana

In Navajo Cops this week viewers are exposed to a major problem happening in Navajo and Indian Country that shouldn't be happening at all- domestic disputes. These disputes aren't just happening to spouses but to other family members. In many Native cultures family is the key to wealth, health and success. It is a sacred privilege that shouldn't be taken for granted.

Navajo Cops keeps viewers on the edge of their seats

By Stacy Thacker, University of Montana

This week the Navajo Cops take a break from hunting “The Howler" and take on a possible homicide case in a two-hour special. They leave you hanging on through out the first episode trying to figure out what happened and the only clues they give you is a shallow grave, a bag containing gloves and blood. Oh, and not to mention a cop finding the head of something right before they cut to a commercial break.
